Mobile devices in field sales and FMCG
Fast-moving consumer goods companies sell through large field teams. Sales reps take orders on tablets and phones. Merchandisers check shelves, take photos and report stock. Distributors and van sales teams use devices for invoicing and delivery.
For these teams, the device is the sales tool. If the order app is not there, or the device is lost, the day’s sales are at risk. A mobile device management (MDM) system keeps every device ready and protected, wherever the rep is.
Apps that stay in place
With app management, the order and merchandising apps are installed silently, updated automatically and protected from removal. An allow or block list decides what else may run. For merchandisers who only need two or three apps, kiosk mode keeps the device focused.
Location and visit checks
Location tracking shows where devices are and where they have been. Many companies use this to review routes and find lost devices. Location of a person’s device is personal data under KVKK and GDPR. Decide why you collect it, tell employees, and keep collection proportionate. Our page on MDM and data protection covers the main points. This is general information, not legal advice.
How a typical rollout looks
- Pick an ownership model. Fully managed devices for work only, or company-owned devices with a work profile. The device ownership models guide compares them.
- Enroll devices with a QR code, centrally or at regional offices. See device enrollment.
- Group by region and team and assign policies and apps to each group.
- Share sales material. Price lists and campaign documents go out with content management.
- Watch the fleet. Reports show app versions, device status and last connection for each rep.
