Mobile device management for hospitality

Guests use in-room tablets for a few days and then leave. Staff use front-desk and housekeeping devices every shift. DeepManage keeps both types ready, locked down and free of the last guest's data.

Typical devices

  • In-room guest tablets
  • Lobby and concierge information kiosks
  • Front-desk and reservation tablets
  • Housekeeping, maintenance and service staff phones

Challenges in this sector

  1. Guest data between stays

Guests sign in to apps, browse and save files on in-room tablets. Nothing should remain when the next guest arrives.

  2. Devices in public hands

Guest tablets must stay in the hotel app. Guests should not change settings, install apps or reach the home screen.

  3. Content that changes often

Menus, event schedules and service information change daily or weekly. Updating tablets one by one takes staff time.

  4. Small or no on-site IT

Many hotels share IT across properties. Device problems must be solved remotely whenever possible.

How teams use DeepManage

  1. Guest tablet in kiosk mode

In-room tablets run the hotel's guest app, or a small set of approved apps, in kiosk mode. Guests cannot leave it or change settings.

  2. Clear guest data at checkout

After checkout, the data of the guest-facing apps is cleared remotely. If needed, the tablet can be fully wiped and re-enrolled.

  3. Update menus and information

New menus, spa schedules or event information are sent as files to the tablets of one property or every property.

  4. Staff devices for housekeeping

Housekeeping and maintenance phones get the service apps silently and are limited to work use.

  5. Remote help for front desk

When a front-desk tablet freezes, central IT opens Live Control and fixes it without travelling to the hotel.

Recommended setup

Device ownership model
Dedicated devices (COSU) for guest tablets and lobby kiosks. Staff devices can be fully managed (COBO), or shared between shifts.
Deployment
Cloud is usually the best fit for hotels and hotel groups, with no servers to run. On-premises is available for groups that host their own systems.

Mobile devices in hospitality

Hotels use tablets and phones in front of guests and behind the scenes. In-room tablets let guests order room service, read hotel information and control services. Lobby kiosks show events and directions. Front-desk staff check guests in on tablets, and housekeeping teams receive tasks on their phones.

Guest-facing devices have two jobs: give each guest a clean, simple experience and protect the privacy of the previous guest. Staff devices need to be reliable every shift. A mobile device management (MDM) system handles both from one console.

Guest tablets in kiosk mode

Kiosk mode keeps an in-room tablet on the hotel app, or a small set of approved apps on a managed home screen. Guests cannot open settings, install apps or leave the kiosk. The kiosk and dedicated devices page explains the setup.

Between guests

When a guest checks out, the tablet must be clean for the next one. DeepManage can clear the data of selected apps remotely, which signs the previous guest out and removes what they saved. For a complete reset, the device can be wiped and enrolled again. See security and compliance for remote wipe options.

Guest tablets can hold personal data when guests sign in to services. Clearing data between stays and explaining it in your privacy notice supports your KVKK and GDPR duties. Read MDM and data protection for the main points. This is general information, not legal advice.

How a typical rollout looks

  1. Group devices by property, floor or device type: guest tablets, lobby kiosks, staff devices.
  2. Enroll devices with a QR code before they go into rooms. See device enrollment.
  3. Set kiosk policies for guest and lobby devices, and work-only policies for staff devices.
  4. Publish content such as menus and event schedules with content management.
  5. Support remotely with Live Control when a device needs attention.

Frequently asked questions

Can guest data be removed from a tablet after checkout?

Yes. You can clear the data of specific apps remotely, or wipe the whole device and enroll it again. Which option you use depends on how guests use the tablet.

Can guests leave the hotel app?

Not in kiosk mode. The tablet shows only the apps you allow, and guests cannot reach settings or install anything.

Can we use different content for each property?

Yes. Group tablets by hotel, floor or room type, then send content and assign policies to each group.

What about guests' personal data?

Guest tablets may hold personal data if guests sign in to apps. Clearing app data between stays helps, and your privacy notice should explain how the tablets work. This is general information, not legal advice.
